Zero plastic … and we mean it!

Zero plastic … and we mean it!

We started HiBAR with a commitment to zero plastic. And we mean it! But as we grew, our shampoo bars and conditioner bars started to get picked up by bigger and bigger stores, and eventually we were shipping on pallets. Which presented a predicament. Pallets of boxes are traditionally held together with … you guessed it … plastic.

Every time a pallet of product is shipped across the country, it’s shrink-wrapped. How much shrink wrap? Well your typical pallet is around 48 inches wide x 48 inches x a little over 5 feet tall. It takes a whopping 100 feet of plastic film to wrap one typical pallet. Imagine a company that’s shipping hundreds of pallets a day. Yikes, that’s a lot of plastic waste!

So if HiBAR is committed to zero plastic, how do we ship pallets? Meet EcoFilm. EcoFilm is a certified compostable film designed to replace traditional plastic films. We use EcoFilm to stretch-wrap all of our pallets of shampoo bars, conditioner bars, face wash bars, and plastic-free deodorant being shipped to our customers.

The exact time it takes for EcoFilm to biodegrade varies depending upon the environmental conditions (ie. temperature, soil quality, and activity of microorganisms). When it’s placed in a commercial composting site, EcoFilm will usually biodegrade into carbon dioxide and water in a matter of weeks. And best of all it leaves behind no toxicity to soil, plants, or microorganisms involved in the composting process.

Now, if we could just get the rest of the world to start using EcoFilm for all of their shipments!
